Will Young returns to BBC One tonight as a judge on new BBC One singing show Pitch Battle.
The former Pop Idol winner appeared on Strictly Come Dancing last year but quit for ‘personal reasons’.
He’s now back on TV as a guest judge on Pitch Battle, which begins this evening at 7:30PM on BBC One.
Hosted by Mel Giedroyc, each week Pitch Battle will see six choirs and vocal groups of all different sizes and musical genres battle it out for a place in the Live Grand Final.
Tonight’s six groups include a pop choir from Liverpool LMA, an all-female a cappella group from The University of Birmingham The Uptone Girls, a soul group of musicians Leeds Contemporary Singers, a contemporary choir Vocally Bespoke, an all-female barbershop group Vocal Dimension Chorus and a five-piece gospel group A Flame.
To progress the groups must impress the panel of musical judges – the nation’s favourite choirmaster Gareth Malone, former choirgirl turned international recording artist Kelis and a special guest judge.
This week’s first guest judge is BRIT Award winner and former choirboy Will Young, who will also be performing as he takes to the stage with the final two groups in the last battle of the heat.
In the final battle, the last two groups standing share the same song, before guest judge Will joins in with the group the panel have chosen to go through to the Grand Final.
Will Young will return in the Grand Final to sing with the show’s winning group who will be one step closer to the £50,000 cash prize.
Meanwhile, the episode will launch with an epic musical mash-up, arranged by the Series Musical Director Deke Sharon, who is the Musical Director on the Pitch Perfect movies.
Pitch Battle airs tonight from 7:30PM on BBC One.
