Graham Norton has bad news for Eurovision 2017 entry Lucie Jones

Graham Norton doesn’t rate Lucie Jones’ chances at Eurovision 2017.

The X Factor 2009 finalist on the ITV series was voted by the public last month to represent us in Ukraine in May with song Never Give Up On You.

Since 2000, the UK has only made the top ten twice at Eurovision while we finished dead last three times. Last year we finished 24th out of 26 finalists.

And UK Eurovision host Graham doesn’t think that our run of bad luck will change any time soon.

He told the Daily Star newspaper: “I’m just not sure it will happen for us this year. I mean, I could be wrong as Germany have won, Austria have won. So I suppose people who never win, win.

“On the night, anything can happen. I’m just not sure it will for us, though.”

Speaking ahead of this year’s contest recently, Lucie was hopeful for her chances.

She said: “Every single year there is talk of the political vote and why the UK doesn’t get votes.

“This year won’t be any different. Obviously there is a different slant to it because of Brexit but I’m not worried about that.

“The song has a beautiful message and it’s not an event about Brexit. We are going to go and perform the song the best we can and meet people all over the world who are like-minded.”

Lucie went on to tell the Daily Record newspaper: “People may see Britain’s recent record in Eurovision as pressure. I don’t.

“There would be no point in me going and feeling worried about not winning. I have to go and do the absolute best I can so that we get on to the left hand side of the board and as close to the top as we can.”

The 62nd Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Kyiv, Ukraine and air on 13th May on BBC One.
