The UK’s Eurovision 2017 entry Lucie Jones is confident she can win against the odds.
Originally considered a rank outsider, the former X Factor finalist’s chances of taking the title in Ukraine at the weekend have been slashed over the past 24 hours.
Following rehearsals of her performance of Never Give Up On You, Lucie is now ranked as one of the top ten contenders.
And although she still faces quite the battle for victory, Lucie is confident it’s possible.
“I don’t look at the odds to be honest. I was favourite to win when I was on X Factor and I got kicked out to Jedward,” the Welsh songstress pointed out. “So I don’t really bother with odds.
“It’s wonderful they are there as people want to see them, but I don’t take any notice myself. I’m going there to do well but I’m prepared for anything.”
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper ahead of Eurovision 2017 on Saturday, Lucie teased her plans for the song and performance to come.
“We’ve done a lot of work on the song. We’ve been thinking about what we’re going to do at the final and what I’ll be wearing,” she said. “I’m really pleased with everything that has come out of the woodwork. I just hope everyone likes it.”
Lucie continued: “I’d really like to get on the top half of the board. I just want to do well. I’ll hopefully sing Never Give Up On You as well as I can. I just hope people connect with the song on the night.
“I’ve had a lot of good feedback from all over the world. Hopefully, that translates into votes and I’ll do really well on the night.”
The Eurovision Song Contest 2017 airs at 8PM on BBC One this Saturday night.
