As Big Brother bursts back onto our screens, here are six changes we’re wanting to see.
Although we’re not exactly getting our hopes up.
Relatively Normal folk
It’s about time Big Brother got back to offering us up some (relatively) every day people as housemates. Getting average Joes off the street is never really going to happen (most of us can’t take 3 months off work for a TV show…) but we also don’t need the Z-list wannabes who already have agents to make for an interesting show.
We’re calling on Big Brother to get harsh on the housemates with actual punishments for rule breaking. At the extreme, kick people out. But at least do more than turning the hot water off. Nomination rule breaks in particular should see at the very least a ban from nominating.
It seems that tasks in the Big Brother house nowadays are getting shorter, easier and completely trivial. We want a return to the tasks that lasted days, including keeping the housemates awake at night. Although without Live Feed, there may not be much of a point…
Frickin’ Live Feed
This one really does go without saying: Let’s bring back Live Feed. At this stage we’re not even going to ask for the 24/7 multiple internet feeds available in other countries, we’ll settle for just some afternoon or evening streaming on a side channel or online.
Return of the shopping list
The shopping list has been at the centre of many great Big Brother moments over the years from arguments and failed maths and outright pranks – who can forget Harry’s 500 bunches of bananas? Bring it back like it used to be with a blackboard and chalk.
We can already predict that this year will probably see some form of ‘shocking face to face nominations!’ and a task where Big Brother reveals what people have been saying in the Diary Room. While manufactured drama can prove good telly, sometimes the best arguments and rows come from when the housemates are just left to it.
