One member of Britain’s Got Talent act The Boyz has revealed his past on The X Factor.
The Boyz, who auditioned for BGT on Saturday night, are a boyband made up of 42-year-old Craig, 35-year-old David, 31-year-old Matt and 26-year-old Richard.
“We’re different,” the group told the judges before the performance which saw them singing and dancing to a medley of Backstreet Boys “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” and Queen “We Will Rock You” for the judges.
David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon all got on their feet to dance along.
“You guys are hot! It was a little bit cheesy but who doesn’t love cheese?!” David said after the audition.
Alesha agreed: “What is there not to like about you guys? I love a bit of cheese!”
But Simon Cowell remained unimpressed: “I feel like I’m in some weird dream today, it’s like when you get a band back together again but the band’s been put in a food mixer…”
While Simon said no, with three yeses from the other judges, The Boyz are through to the next round.
It turns out that for Craig, who has been performing in the group for 22 years, it wasn’t his first time in front of Simon Cowell.
He auditioned for The X Factor back in 2004 where Simon had also said no.
Craig told the Daily Star newspaper: “I went on X Factor and got through to boot camp but it was too overwhelming and I didn’t last.
“Simon didn’t like me then either. He doesn’t like me. He said the same comments.”
Speaking about his hopes for the band on BGT this year, Craig added: “We’re not looking for a record deal. We’d just like more people to know about us.”
Britain’s Got Talent 2017 airs Saturday nights on ITV.
